Nathan Andrew Richards, 26, of Berkley, Michigan, entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 22, 2026, following a tragic vehicle accident.
To know Nathan was to experience extraordinary kindness, genuine friendship, and the love of Christ in a deeply personal way. Selfless, joyful, and unwavering in his faith, he lived each day with remarkable intentionality, always making time for others and ensuring everyone he encountered felt seen, valued, and loved. Whether sharing a meal, opening his home, offering encouragement, or simply showing up when someone needed him most, Nathan lived out the Gospel with quiet consistency and wholehearted generosity.
Born on January 13, 2000, Nathan was the beloved son of Andrew and Celeste Richards and one of four siblings, growing up alongside Abigail, William, and Harrison. His childhood was filled with adventure, laughter, deep friendships, and a vibrant faith. He loved Star Wars, superheroes, loud music, soccer, VeggieTales, family camping trips, road trips, and traveling with those he loved. He was blessed by lifelong friendships formed through his church, homeschool community, and the Berkley neighborhood he proudly called home.
From an early age, Nathan possessed an extraordinary gift for bringing people together. He loved creating music, making films, dreaming big with friends, and building friendships that would last a lifetime. Those same friendships became the foundation of a life devoted to serving Christ and others.
Nathan faithfully served in children's ministry, led worship, worked with SpringHill Day Camps as both a counselor and Area Director, and founded Anthem Collective alongside close friends as an expression of his desire to build Christ-centered community. He pursued that calling through studies at Christ For The Nations Bible Institute and later at Oral Roberts University, where he served as Head Chaplain and continued to grow as a humble servant leader.
In 2023, Nathan became Children's Ministry Director at Cross and Anchor Church, where he joyfully invested in children, parents, and families with wisdom beyond his years. He also loved teaching fifth-grade students, becoming both mentor and friend to every child entrusted to his care.
Nathan's greatest earthly joy was marrying and building a life alongside his beloved wife, Lauren.
Nathan, alongside his wife Lauren, served the Church most beautifully as the faithful leader of a house ministry called Pasta & Prayer. From a longing to make their home a peaceful house of prayer, they built a Shalom Home that unified broken people in the reverent awe and glory of Jesus Christ their Lord and multiplied these sacred spaces across cities far and wide. This gathering was the magnum opus of Nathan’s ministry work and it will continue to flourish by the graceful hand of God. Though his years were few, the impact of his life is immeasurable.
His legacy will be carried on by his beloved wife, Lauren Richards; his parents, Andrew and Celeste Richards; his siblings, Abigail, William, and Harrison Richards; grandparents, Charles and Sherry Richards, Rose and Ron Gibson, Beverley Wressell; his loving in-laws, Tracy and Steve, Jim and Cheryl, Sara, Alexa, Scott and Shirley George. his future brother-in-law, Josh Mathew; aunts and uncles, Peter and Johanna Richards, Mike and Anne Marie Szuba, John and Heather Fisher, Jayson and Crissy Mitchell, and Ronnie and Jennifer Gibson; cousins, Ellie, Annah (Yuseong), Ben (Grace), Emma, Maddy, Sarah, Jonathan, Evan (Grace), Ava, Liam, Juliet, Parker, Sara, Tara, Ella, Aaron, Mary Grace, Polly, and Jacob, and an extraordinary community of cherished friends whose lives were forever changed by knowing him.
A celebration of Nathan's life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, 10:00 a.m. in state until the time of the service, 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Birmingham, Michigan. Visitation with the family will take place on Tuesday, June 30, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm and Wednesday, July 1, from 2:00 -8:00pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home in Royal Oak.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to The Nathan Richards Foundation to honor the profound impact Nathan had on the world around him and to continue carrying out his vision of sharing a vibrant and full life through service to Christ and others.
